Silk Road Suite

The compositions on CD Silk Road Suite sum-up the twenty years of a European musician exploring the continent of Asia. This is an attempt to comprehend the way of perceiving the beauty in music other than the European way, its different rhythms, color and meaning. Every piece is based on original melodic theme deriving from India, China, Japan, Thrace, Arabia or Poland. The use of musical instruments typical for given culture strengthens the credibility of a composition. At the same time through almost all pieces there intertwine the European instruments, this providing a proof of  perfect harmony of different sonic shades belonging to distant cultures. This programme is also a chronicle of reconstruction of two lost old Polish bowed instruments ( suka and fiddle). Their reconstruction has been possible due to the experiences with the bow-playing technique that are long forgotten in Poland but still in use in Asia. Silk Road Suite becomes a fascinating encounter of the West and the East it is a journey not only in space but also in time.  To say-I am- we have to have some points of reference. For me such a point are the musical culture of Asia, that allow me to say –You are- and to find anew my own identity. To see irreplaceable difference and yet to find common elements that connect the mutually distant traditions.

Roots, Racines of Chopin

Same programme as on CD „Music of the Lowlands”.No one can really question the fact that the uniqueness of Chopin’s masterpieces in a large part is a result of inspirations drawn from folk music. Custom has it however that both of these phenomena  function in a separate context and belong to a different performance traditions. “At the sources of Chopin’s music” has been created in order to break this stereotype. By reducing folk music and Chopin’s Mazurkas to a common denominator our aim was to give to the listener a completely new look at his music.

Music of the lowlands.

No one can really question the fact that the uniqueness of Chopin's masterpieces in a large part is a result of inspirations drawn from folk music. Custom has it however that both of these phenomena  function in a separate context and belong to a different performance traditions. At the sources of Chopin's music has been created in order to break this stereotype. By reducing folk music and Chopin's Mazurkas to a common denominator our aim was to give to the listener a completely new look at his music. Such an interpretation of Chopin's Mazurkas has not been heard before.
